A Book Log
I enjoyed the ending novella quite a bit, though as you've said, the practice of ending a book of short stories with a big novella is pretty off-putting.
SF tends to be about big things, or about small things in the middle of big things. These stories are about small things. The difference can be disorienting.

But I don't generally have a problem with small, personal genre stuff. Kij Johnson's The Fox Woman is essentially just a relationship story, and I love that, for instance. Maybe it's just the lack of variety and repetition of every single story being a small, personal story.
